Brewer Middle School Art

Sixth grade students explore three electives organized into 12-week trimesters. In their 12-week introduction to art, students create projects based on each of the 7 elements of art with a variety of materials. The overall goal is for students to improve their fine motor skills and build confidence in their observation and creative skills.
Seventh graders learn the basic elements and principles of art, working with watercolor, clay and crafting materials to help them gain an understanding of the uses and applications.
In Art 1, eighth graders hit the ground running with creative projects, simultaneously learning techniques that build upon their skills. They use concepts like one-point perspective, watercolor, pinch potting and gridding.
With each project, they learn how to incorporate skills into freely creative works, always scaffolding into the next project. The class commences with a tattoo project in which students paper mache their arms and create a replicas of a sleeved arm.
They learn learn techniques such as optical illusions, perspectives, painting, clay, and gridding. All while finding potential for UIL tournaments and Art Shows.
